Happy Scrappy – Scrap Quilting Zoom Workshop - 22nd October

Got scraps? Of course you have!

Join me for Happy Scrappy, a fun and relaxed 2-hour Zoom quilting workshop where we’ll turn those leftover strips, squares and “too nice to throw away” bits into gorgeous scrappy patchwork.

22nd October 6pm - 8pm

Learn how to sort and cut your scraps, mix colours and prints, create contrast and piece simple scrappy blocks that can become cushions, bags, table runners or even a whole quilt.

Perfect for beginners and improvers, and there’s no need to buy more fabric. The whole point is to use what you’ve already got!

Can’t join me live? Don’t worry. The class will be recorded so you can watch it back afterwards.

Where is it? 

The class is an online interactive workshop, so you will need access to the internet (through a smart phone or a computer). If you wish to be seen, you will need a webcam, but you can choose to not be in vision if you wish. The event will also be recorded, and then uploaded to a private area of YouTube within 48 hours, and you will be able to access it for 12 months. That way, you can rewatch it at your leisure.

• What size scraps are worth keeping

• Squares, strips and odd-shaped pieces

• Creating a useful scrap box

• Cutting scraps into standard sizes

• Using very small pieces

• Working with light, medium and dark fabrics

• Colour without getting bogged down in colour theory

• How to make lots of different fabrics look intentional

• Using a background fabric to calm everything down

• Chain piecing for quick scrap sewing

• Pressing scrappy patchwork accurately

• Ideas for using leftover blocks, triangles and strips

The Scrap Happy project

During the workshop we’ll make a simple scrappy patchwork block that you can repeat to create almost anything.

You could turn your blocks into a cushion, table runner, bag, placemat, wall hanging, baby quilt or full-sized quilt.

The idea is not to give you another project that needs seventeen specially selected fabrics.

I want you to finish the class looking at the scraps you already own and thinking, “I know exactly what I can do with those.”
