Like many people, I adore elephants. These gentle majestic creatures have always held a fascination for me, and I was lucky enough to get up close and personal to a couple on a trip to India a few years ago. Even before then, they have featured heavily in my designs, and a delightful elephant cushion even featured in my first book, ‘Sarah Payne’s Quilt School’. An earlier version of this design is where I first developed the method for the shaped ears that are such a big part of the personality of those cushions, and this quilt.

Requirements

• 1m of white contrast fabric
• 2 fat ¼ bundles (Elephant Festival by Sarah Payne)
• 9 pieces of wadding each measuring 11 inches square for the elephants
• 1m of medium weight sew in interface
• 9 buttons for eyes
• Backing and wadding to fit

 In addition, you will need threads for piecing and quilting.
