Join Sarah Payne and Jennie Rayment for an applique and a patchwork masterclass

On this fabulous retreat (complete with Spa!), two leading lights of the quilting world - Jennie Rayment and Sarah Payne - will teach you several quilting techniques that you can take away and use for a whole variety of quilting projects. Sarah will teach on the Saturday and Jennie will teach on the Sunday. You can come to one of the days, both of the days, or book yourself the entire Weekend Retreat which includes both days, an overnight stay, dinner, breakfast, lunch both days and refreshments, plus you can use the Spa! Not only that, on the Saturday night after dinner, Sarah will be providing you with a lovely chat about her Himalayan Quilting adventures and showing you the most beautiful quilts!

Sarah Payne - Saturday 16th May 2020 - Machine/Hand-Edged Applique Masterclass

On Saturday Sarah Payne is here to hold your hand if you have ever fancied learning to create applique designs but never quite have the courage to give it a try. On this one-day workshop you will work on an applique panel that you can turn into a cushion or a centre panel for a quilt. Sarah will guide you through different techniques that you can use to create a unique work of art. Sarah will supply you with templates for a number of different designs so you can make something you are going to treasure.

Sarah will cover:

  • Machine sewn raw edged applique
  • Machine stitched needle turned applique
  • Hand Applique using the drawn thread method

You can choose from a traditional Baltimore style applique design or a more graphic design such as the Birdsong design below. Whatever design you choose, you will be sure to create a unique piece that you will treasure for ever.

Jennie Rayment - Sunday 17th May 2020 - Patchwork Masterclass

On Sunday 17th May you will explore the exciting possibilities for patchwork play with the 'Queen of Quilting' Jennie Rayment with just two contrasting fabric colours. From simple squares and a couple of strips, discover how to create a variety of traditional pieced designs from Snail's Trail, Hunter's Star to Delectable Mountains.

Learn to work with half and quarter square triangles, get the gist of the grain, understand the intricacies of perfect seams, points and so much more. Make one of the patterns into a bag or explore all three techniques for future use. The 'Queen of Quilting' will guide you through every step of the way! Machine or hand sewing if preferred. No templates required - just cut and sew!
