Bedroom

This page is about the miniature bedroom in my Tudor dolls house.

A bedroom in a real Tudor house was just as public a place as any of the other rooms in the house. Even the King never slept alone. Tudor furnishings were designed to be impressive and the bedroom in my dolls house will be no exception. I picked up a four poster bed and a matching truggle bed from a dollshouse fair to use in my miniature version. I have made video instructions on how to drape it in rich silk using a 'no-sew' technique. I hope this will really do justice to the oppulence of the Tudor style country house.

The truckle (truggle) bed was designed to be slipped under the main bed when the servant wasn't sleeping on it.

Mine fits nicely under the bed and is strung. A friendly stall holder at a dollshouse fair I attended suggested that I make the mattress and fill it with sand to get an authentic feel.

So far there is some furniture in place and a new floor. This was individual strips of real wood with a glue backing. They are laid onto cardboard (because all my dolls house floors are movable just in case!) and ironed in place to melt the glue.

Then I did a brown wash over the top because the white card showed through - note: next time paint the white card BEFORE laying the floor).

The overall look was completed with further waxing to give a nice sheen and bring out the grain. Again I think the effort is worth it for the outcome!

At the moment the dolls house bedroom is the 'storeroom' for all the funiture that will one day live in the banqueting hall, as well as all the miniature bedroom furniture.

Please feel free to come back when there is more to see ;)
