I decided
last year that, as part of my Christmas decorations, I was going
to have a Christmas Dolls Houseroom! I decided on a room because this idea
came to me in November so time was short!
With a vague
plan in my mind, I
took a trip to my friendly neighbourhood dollshouse shop (Dollshouse
Number Nine in St Ives, Cambs) and picked up a room with a
bay window for the princely sum of £29. I picked some red
and gold wall coverings because I want a rich, sumptuous feel
to the room and came home to get started.
The period is loosely Victorian.
Video footage so
that you can really look around the room!
I
have not worked on a single room before and I found it quite liberating
not being faced with a huge empty expanse of dollshouse.
After
a weekend of fun, I had a papered room with a wooden floor, coving
and skirting boards. Obviously I crammed in all the suitable stuff
I had to make it look inhabited!
The
plan is to continue collecting and add more stuff to it each year.
There is always time for more collecting!!!!
The next step
was to add the electrics. This was a first for me because I have
not attempted electrics in my other dollshouse, but it was suprisingly
easy with the aid if the little plug thingies and some pliers!
I added a
miniature ceiling light, double wall light and a standard lamp. There is
a Tiffany style lamp and some tree lights which I added later.
I still need
to make some Christmas stockings to hang from the mantle. When
they are done I will finish dressing the fireplace, and add some
tinsel around the coving.
This is my
first attempt at a How To video using stills. It shows you how
to make the Christmas wreath which is now proudly hanging on my
dollshouse's front door (which you can peek at the start of the
video further up this page).
The
tree is partly dressed and gifts still need to be wrapped! There
is never enought time at Christmas!!!
Now the fun
starts - dressing the dollshouse room. I want the idea to be that the owners
of the house have just been called out of the room half way through
their preparations. The tree is not fully decorated, cards are
unwritten and gifts lie unwrapped all over the floor.
One of the
children of the house was called out whilst preparing to play
Christmas carols on their violin.
I made the needle
felt teddy bears and the toys are from a dollshouse shop in St Ives.
The desk has
half written cards spread all over it and gifts for the girls
of the house propped up against the legs.
There are
even some delicious Christmas gingerbread biscuits left on a plate
for later...
I
love the corner table. The oranges were brought on Ebay for my Tudor
house but they have been nabbed!
I am especially
pleased with my Christmas crackers made from wrapping paper! Working
this small really requires tweezers!
Every
good Christmas needs a good fireplace and this is no acception. This
was a cheap fireplace brought for £3 that I brightened up
with some acrylic paints to bring out the design.
The Candelabra
is another ebay purchase from Miniart2007.
The cards are from a dollshouse magazine.
The final step will be to wrap the whole room in Christmas wrapping
paper so that it looks like the little gift that it is turning into.
